Granules India Profit Jumps 39% But Shares Fall on FDA Audit

Granules India reported a 39% rise in net profit to ₹181.8 crore for the second quarter, but its shares fell 2.38% as investors reacted to 11 US FDA observations at its Gagillapur plant. While revenue grew 20% to ₹1,559.97 crore, margin pressure from high input costs remains a key concern.

Granules India posted strong financial growth for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, though the market reaction remained cautious. The pharmaceutical company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹181.8 crore, marking a 39.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenue from operations also saw a healthy rise of 20.3%, reaching ₹1,559.97 crore.

Despite these positive earnings, the company's stock price fell 2.38% to close at ₹819.55 on the BSE on November 2, 2026. The decline reflected investor unease regarding a recent inspection by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) at the company’s Gagillapur finished dosage facility. The inspection, which concluded on October 30, 2026, resulted in 11 observations listed in Form FDA 483.

Management has clarified that these observations are standard in the audit process and do not involve issues related to data integrity or cross-contamination. The company emphasized that there is no impact on current manufacturing or distribution activities at the facility. Shareholders will likely track how quickly the firm submits and implements its corrective action plan to address these findings.

Beyond regulatory concerns, the company is also navigating operational pressure. Profit margins have been squeezed by rising input and logistics costs, partly driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The management noted that it is working to pass on some of these costs to customers, though there is a time lag before these measures fully reflect in the numbers. Despite these cost headwinds, the company maintains a solid financial foundation, closing the quarter with a net cash position of ₹828 crore, which provides some cushion against current volatility.

Moving forward, investors will be monitoring the company's progress in resolving the US FDA observations, as well as its ability to stabilize profit margins in an environment of fluctuating global logistics and input prices.
