Fredun Pharmaceuticals has acquired a 26% stake in Mumbai-based Goodman Vetcare, its second pet-care investment in two weeks. This move aims to build an integrated pet-health ecosystem, diversifying the company away from its traditional human pharmaceutical business.
Fredun Pharmaceuticals has finalized a deal to purchase a 26% stake in Mumbai-based Goodman Vetcare Private Limited. This marks the company’s second major entry into the veterinary and pet-wellness space within two weeks, following the recent acquisition of the pet-wellness brand Furlicks. The investment is part of a broader push to capture a larger share of the fragmented but growing Indian pet-care market.
Goodman Vetcare currently operates three pharmacies across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The firm has shown growth, with its annual revenue increasing from ₹14.1 crore in the 2024 fiscal year to ₹23.6 crore in the 2026 fiscal year. Looking ahead, the company has set aggressive expansion targets, aiming to reach ₹100 crore in revenue by fiscal year 2031. To support this growth, the company plans to open eight new stores across three cities and set up a new warehouse in the first half of the year to improve supply chain reliability.
For Fredun Pharmaceuticals, this strategy represents a shift toward building an integrated pet-health platform. The company's management stated that the investment is intended to address supply chain inconsistencies that pet owners often face. For the fiscal year 2026, Fredun Pharmaceuticals reported a total revenue of ₹639.12 crore, with an EBITDA of ₹94.79 crore and a profit after tax of ₹33.21 crore.
While the expansion into pet care offers a new revenue stream, it also introduces operational risks. Moving from a core focus on pharmaceutical manufacturing to retail-heavy pet care involves a different business model. The company will need to successfully integrate its two new pet-care investments while scaling retail operations, which can be capital-intensive and logistically challenging. Investors should watch how the company manages the cost of these expansions and whether the new ventures can deliver consistent profit margins in a highly competitive retail environment.
The key monitorables for stakeholders include the pace of store openings, the successful scaling of the warehouse infrastructure, and the company's ability to maintain its overall profit margins while funding these new business segments.
