Dr. Reddy's Profit Falls 69% to ₹434 Crore in Q1 FY27

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories reported a 69% decline in net profit to ₹434 crore for the first quarter ending June 30, 2026. The drop was largely driven by a reduction in revenue from lenalidomide and supply chain issues with semaglutide API. Despite the decline, the company reported steady double-digit growth in its core base business operations.

Detailed Coverage

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories saw a sharp decline in its financial performance for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. The pharmaceutical major reported a net profit of ₹434 crore, a 69% decrease compared to the ₹1,417 crore profit earned during the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter stood at ₹8,070 crore, reflecting a 6% decline from the ₹8,545 crore reported in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Impact of Key Products on Quarterly Results

The management explained that the decline is primarily due to the expected decrease in sales from lenalidomide, a generic cancer drug that previously contributed significantly to the company's revenue. Additionally, the company encountered an unexpected disruption in the supply chain for semaglutide, an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used in diabetes and weight-loss medications. These two factors created a temporary drag on the company's top-line and bottom-line growth during this quarter.

Core Business Performance and Future Outlook

While the headline numbers show pressure, the company’s leadership emphasized that the underlying base business remains strong. According to G V Prasad, Co-Chairman and Managing Director, the company's core segments across key global markets achieved double-digit growth. This suggests that while specific legacy products are declining, the rest of the portfolio is growing steadily.

To manage this transition, Dr. Reddy’s is focusing on its long-term growth pipeline. The company is currently directing capital toward the development of biosimilars, peptides, and innovative products. These investments are intended to reduce future reliance on individual high-growth products like lenalidomide.

For investors, the most important monitorable over the coming quarters will be the recovery in the semaglutide API supply chain and the pace at which new product launches can replace the declining revenue from legacy generic drugs. Analysts and investors will likely look for signs of margin stabilization as the company shifts its product mix toward these newer focus areas.
