Divi's Labs Hits Record High After 27.8% Revenue Jump in Q1

Divi's Laboratories shares climbed 5% to ₹8,464 after reporting a 27.8% revenue increase for the April-June quarter. The company has now become India’s second-largest pharmaceutical firm by market value, surpassing Eicher Motors and Hindalco. Investors are monitoring the company's progress on custom synthesis projects, which are expected to drive future growth.

Divi's Laboratories shares reached a new high of ₹8,464 on Monday, following a strong financial performance in the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. The company reported significant growth with revenue increasing by 27.8%, while profit after tax jumped 75.8% compared to the same period last year. This rally has pushed the company's total market value to ₹2.25 trillion, making it the second most valuable pharmaceutical company in India, behind Sun Pharmaceutical Industries.

The recent stock movement reflects investor optimism regarding the company's custom synthesis business. Divi's Laboratories is currently focusing on three large custom synthesis projects, representing ₹1,400 crore in capitalized assets. These projects are expected to transition into commercial supply phases in the coming quarters. Management has expressed confidence in maintaining stable profit margins and expects growth to be supported by these dedicated contracts and the supply of contrast media products to new customers.

Financial analysts have noted that the sharp rise in operating margins during the quarter was influenced by factors such as currency benefits and specific inventory movements alongside the strong revenue growth. While the company is scaling up operations, it is also maintaining high levels of capital spending to expand capacity in key areas such as peptides, Key Starting Materials, and nutraceuticals. This heavy investment cycle is intended to support long-term production capabilities.

Despite the positive outlook, investors should remain aware of the company's reliance on custom synthesis projects. The growth trajectory will depend on the successful and timely commercialization of these projects following customer qualifications and regulatory approvals. Furthermore, while the company maintains that its generics business remains stable, the broader pharmaceutical sector often faces pricing pressures that can impact profitability over time. The company’s valuation has also increased significantly, with the stock gaining 36% over the last six months, outpacing the benchmark index. Future updates on the commissioning of new capacity and the actual revenue contribution from the identified custom synthesis contracts will be important for tracking the company's sustained growth.
