Alembic Pharma Hits 20% Upper Circuit After Q2 Profit Doubles

Alembic Pharmaceuticals shares touched the 20% upper circuit after a strong Q2 FY27 performance. The company reported an 81.5% jump in profit to ₹335 crore and a 36% rise in revenue, driven by stellar growth in its US formulations business.

Shares of Alembic Pharmaceuticals soared to the 20% upper circuit on the BSE on November 4, 2026, reaching ₹965 after the company declared strong financial results for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. The market reaction followed a sharp increase in profitability and revenue, signaling positive sentiment towards the company’s recent operational performance.

For the quarter ended September 2026, Alembic Pharmaceuticals reported a consolidated profit after tax of ₹335.17 crore, an 81.5% jump compared to the same period last year. Revenue from operations also saw a significant boost, climbing 36.3% year-on-year to ₹2,603.48 crore. The company also improved its operational efficiency, with EBITDA margins expanding to 22.21%, compared to 17.02% in the previous year's second quarter.

A key driver of this performance was the US formulations business, which recorded a 77% surge in revenue to ₹1,003 crore. This growth in the US market helped the company offset potential challenges, highlighting the importance of its international operations. Domestically, the India Branded Business grew by 14% to ₹725 crore, while the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) business contributed with a 39% increase, bringing in ₹436 crore.

Despite the strong quarterly numbers, investors often keep a close watch on the risks associated with pharmaceutical companies operating in competitive markets. Alembic’s significant reliance on the US market remains a primary factor, as generic drug prices in the US are highly sensitive to competition and regulatory scrutiny. Any shift in pricing power or potential supply chain hurdles in that region could impact future revenue.

Furthermore, maintaining such growth requires continuous investment in research and development. The company has been allocating about 8% of its revenue toward R&D to sustain its product pipeline. While this is necessary for long-term competitiveness, high R&D spending impacts short-term cash flow and profit margins. Investors typically track how effectively the company manages these costs against potential product approvals.

Moving forward, market participants will likely look for updates on the company's ability to maintain its margin expansion and the pace of new product launches in the US market. The sustainability of the current growth trajectory in the API and domestic branded segments will also be a key factor for stakeholders to monitor in the coming quarters.
