India is revising emission-reduction targets for its steel industry after errors were found in the initial calculations for the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS). The Steel Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, is re-evaluating these targets, which were set in June 2023. This review aims to ensure accurate goal-setting for steel plants, crucial for compliance, potential penalties, and the classification of 'green steel' for export benefits, particularly to the European Union.
