Emergency response teams have been unable to reach the site of a fatal helicopter crash in Utah’s Fishlake National Forest, as a volatile wildfire continues to obstruct the area. The incident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, involving a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter that was being used to support aerial firefighting operations against the Widemouth 2 wildfire.

Authorities have confirmed that the two individuals on board the aircraft sustained fatal injuries. However, recovery efforts for the victims and the subsequent site investigation have been paused. Incident management teams reported that the wildfire, which has consumed over 105,000 acres and is currently 19% contained, presents too high a risk for personnel to enter the crash zone.
