HYDGEN, a company focused on advanced hydrogen generation systems, has successfully shipped its first electrolyser unit that was entirely engineered in-house. This significant milestone was marked by the unveiling of the unit in Mangaluru by Member of Parliament Capt Brijesh Chowta. Manipaddy Krishna Kumar, COO and Co-Founder of HYDGEN, stated that this delivery validates their technology and reinforces their standing in India's burgeoning green hydrogen market.
The electrolyser is specifically tailored for the lab-grown diamond industry, where it plays a crucial role in the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process. Hydrogen acts as a reducing agent, removing impurities and maintaining the necessary environment for diamond formation. HYDGEN is actively working on scaling up its electrolyser capacities by enhancing stack sizes, system modularity, and overall efficiency. The company aims to expand its product range to cater to larger industrial demands and expedite the deployment of commercial-scale green hydrogen systems across various sectors. This shipment signifies the beginning of HYDGEN's commercial phase, aligning with national goals for decarbonisation and energy independence through indigenous technology.
Impact: This development is highly positive for HYDGEN, validating its in-house engineering capabilities and marking its entry into commercial sales. It also bolsters India's domestic capabilities in green hydrogen technology, particularly for specialized industrial applications. The successful deployment could pave the way for broader adoption of green hydrogen in manufacturing processes. Impact rating: 8/10
Heading: Difficult Terms Electrolyser: A device that uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen through a process called electrolysis. Green Hydrogen: Hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources, making its production process environmentally friendly with zero carbon emissions. Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD): A manufacturing process where a solid material is formed from gaseous reactants on a substrate. In this context, it's used to grow diamonds by depositing carbon atoms onto a seed crystal. Reducing Agent: A substance that donates electrons to another substance in a chemical reaction, causing the latter to be reduced. In CVD for diamonds, hydrogen helps remove unwanted carbon. Decarbonisation: The process of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, especially from industrial activities and energy production. Energy Self-reliance: A nation's ability to produce its own energy needs without depending on foreign imports.
