HPCL Tenders for Fuel Imports Amid Refinery Unit Shutdown Due to Contaminated Crude Oil

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has initiated the process to import transport fuels by issuing two tenders for early November delivery. This move follows an operational disruption at their Mumbai refinery, which necessitated the shutdown of its gasoline-producing continuous catalytic reformer unit. The issue stemmed from the sourcing of contaminated crude oil feedstock, identified as having exceptionally high salt and chloride content. The tenders were set to close on Tuesday. An entity named HOECL, from which the crude oil was purportedly sourced, has indicated its intention to discuss the matter with HPCL regarding redressal.
