Vedanta Power Shares Rise 6% In Five Sessions After Q1 Update

Vedanta Power shares have climbed 6% over the last five trading days, showing resilience despite reporting a net loss of ₹423 crore in Q1 FY27. While revenue grew 31% to ₹2,607 crore, an exceptional expense impacted the bottom line. Investors are now tracking technical resistance levels and the progress of the Sakti Thermal Power Plant expansion.

Vedanta Power shares have displayed a positive trend, rising 6% across four of the last five trading sessions. This recent movement stands out as the stock has faced a broader downtrend since its demerger from Vedanta Limited last month. On Thursday, the stock closed at ₹35.82 on the National Stock Exchange, even as the market showed mixed sentiment.

Financial performance for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, presents a mixed picture. The company reported a 31% year-on-year jump in revenue, reaching ₹2,607 crore, primarily supported by a 38% increase in power sales to 5,224 million units. Despite this top-line growth, the company posted a net loss of ₹423 crore for the quarter. This loss was largely driven by an exceptional item of ₹487 crore, which contrasts with the profit of ₹139 crore reported in the previous quarter.

Operational updates remain a focus for shareholders. The company confirmed that the 600 MW Unit-2 at its Sakti Thermal Power Plant is on track for commissioning by the end of this financial year. This expansion is critical, as the company aims to enhance its power generation capacity. Furthermore, revenue visibility is supported by the fact that 74% of sales are covered under long- and medium-term power purchase agreements. The company also maintains a cash position of ₹1,130 crore and has seen credit rating upgrades from CRISIL and ICRA, which may support its financial flexibility.

From a technical perspective, market analysts remain cautious. The stock is currently trading below key moving averages, suggesting that selling pressure persists. Traders are looking at a resistance level near ₹37, which the stock must consistently clear to suggest a change in the current trend. On the downside, buying interest has been observed in the ₹30 to ₹33 support zone.

Investors should also consider the risks associated with the company. Beyond the immediate impact of the net loss, the company has faced operational challenges, including a safety incident at the Sakti plant earlier in 2026, which continues to draw scrutiny. The company’s ability to turn around profitability, manage potential regulatory hurdles, and execute the upcoming capacity expansion without further delays will be the primary factors for investors to watch in the coming quarters.
