ReNew Energy Global's Q2 FY27 revenue grew 28% to INR 49.6 billion, with profit rising 37%. Chairman Sumant Sinha is now pushing for India to become a global clean energy manufacturing hub. While the company is expanding with a new 1,500 MW pumped hydro project, investors are tracking debt repayment needs and operational grid issues.
ReNew Energy Global Chairman Sumant Sinha is positioning India as a vital global manufacturing base for clean energy technology. This strategic shift moves beyond simple project installation toward producing critical components like solar cells and wafers. The vision aligns with the company’s latest financial performance, which shows a strong start to the fiscal year. ReNew reported Q2 FY27 results on November 2, 2026, delivering a 28% increase in revenue to INR 49.6 billion and a 37% jump in profit after tax, reaching INR 6.4 billion.
To support this growth, ReNew is actively expanding its capacity. The company recently signed an agreement for a 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage project in Odisha, valued at approximately INR 9,000 crore. This project is a critical part of the company's effort to move toward reliable, round-the-clock power solutions. Sinha noted that for India to truly become an integrated part of the global clean energy supply chain, it requires absolute policy consistency, deeper integration of domestic capital from sources like pension funds, and strong collaboration with development finance institutions.
While the growth narrative is supported by recent earnings, the company’s expansion plans involve specific financial and operational monitorables. ReNew is currently managing approximately $1.7 billion in upcoming debt repayments, making successful refinancing a key focus for the management. In addition to financial obligations, the company faces operational hurdles. Solar projects in certain regions, such as Telangana, have experienced instances where they could not send all their generated power to the grid. These limits on electricity flow, known as grid curtailment, can impact revenue and profit margins.
Management also expects that manufacturing profit margins may moderate as industry-wide capacity for solar cells and battery components increases over time. Moving forward, investors are watching how ReNew navigates these debt obligations, manages the execution of large projects like the Odisha hydro facility, and maintains profitability against the backdrop of an increasingly competitive manufacturing environment.
