Premier Energies Outlook: Motilal Oswal Sets ₹1,240 Target

Motilal Oswal has issued a positive outlook on solar module manufacturer Premier Energies with a price target of ₹1,240. The brokerage notes that the company remains well-positioned despite recent regulatory extensions in the solar sector. Investors may watch how the firm’s module business and newer segments perform against the backdrop of domestic energy demand.

Motilal Oswal Securities has initiated coverage on solar module manufacturer Premier Energies Limited, setting a price target of ₹1,240. This valuation analysis reflects the brokerage's perspective on the company's growth trajectory within the domestic renewable energy space.

Regulatory Context and Demand

A key focus for investors currently is the recent extension of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) Phase II mandate until December 2026. While changes to such regulations can sometimes create uncertainty in the solar sector, the brokerage highlighted that the impact on Premier Energies is likely to be limited. This is because a significant majority of demand—estimated at 75% to 80%—originates from utility-scale solar projects, the PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar program, and the PM-KUSUM scheme. These specific segments are not impacted by the ALMM extension, which helps protect the company’s order visibility.

Valuation and Financial Framework

To arrive at its target, the brokerage has used a sum-of-the-parts valuation approach. The company’s core domestic module manufacturing business is valued at 14 times its projected EBITDA for the 2028 financial year. Meanwhile, its newer business ventures are valued at 10 times the estimated FY28 EBITDA. These multiples are considered to be in line with valuations seen among similar domestic players in the solar manufacturing industry. After accounting for the company’s net debt position, these segments combine to support the firm’s target price.

Monitoring Future Performance

For investors, the primary area of focus will be the company's ability to maintain its profit margins while scaling up production. While the order book is currently supported by major government-backed schemes, the long-term benefit for shareholders will depend on how efficiently the company manages its capital spending and whether it can effectively navigate competitive pricing pressures within the solar module industry. Monitoring the actual commissioning of new capacity and any further government updates on solar policies will remain essential for tracking the company's financial progress in the coming quarters.
