Nuvoco Vistas Buys 26% Stake in CleanMax Wind-Solar Project

Nuvoco Vistas has acquired a 26% stake in a Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions unit to develop a 46.4 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Rajasthan. This investment is part of the cement manufacturer's strategy to secure green energy, which may help reduce electricity costs and improve its carbon footprint by powering cement operations through open access.

Nuvoco Vistas Corp has finalized an agreement to acquire a 26% stake in Clean Max Ilgohp Pvt Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions. This investment is a strategic move to secure a dedicated supply of renewable energy for the company's cement manufacturing operations. Cement production is highly energy-intensive, and power costs often represent a significant portion of a manufacturer's total operating expenses.

The project involves developing a 46.4 MW wind-solar hybrid facility in Bhikamkhore, Rajasthan. The infrastructure integrates 20 MW of wind capacity with 26.4 MWdc of solar power, supported by a 2-MWh battery energy storage system. This storage setup is intended to provide more stable electricity output, which is essential for the continuous power requirements of cement plants. The company plans to source this electricity through the state's open-access network, effectively replacing more expensive, traditional energy sources.

The facility is expected to generate approximately 100 million units of green electricity annually. Nuvoco estimates that this shift will reduce its carbon footprint by about 1,25,485 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader corporate sustainability strategy, which focuses on digitalization, innovation, and the increased use of renewable energy. Like other major players in the Indian cement industry, Nuvoco is also increasingly adopting Waste Heat Recovery Systems to manage energy costs and reduce dependence on grid power and fossil fuels.

For investors, the primary monitorable remains the project's execution and its impact on power costs. The actual financial benefit will depend on the final commissioning date, the consistency of energy generation, and the regulatory environment governing open-access power procurement. Continued tracking of these operational milestones will help investors understand whether these green energy investments successfully translate into improved energy efficiency and lower operational costs for the company over the long term.
