NTPC Q2 Profit Rises 39% to ₹7,030 Crore, Dividend Set

NTPC reported a 39% jump in consolidated net profit to ₹7,030 crore for the second quarter, driven by a 21% rise in revenue. The power major also declared an interim dividend of ₹3 per share. While demand for electricity remains robust, investors are tracking fuel cost pressures and the company's ongoing capital spending on renewable energy projects.

NTPC has reported a strong performance for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, with consolidated net profit climbing to ₹7,029.56 crore. This is a 38.7% increase compared to the ₹5,066.78 crore recorded in the same quarter last year. The growth was supported by a 21.2% rise in total revenue from operations, which reached ₹54,269.95 crore, up from ₹44,784.05 crore in the prior year.

The company’s revenue growth was balanced across its business lines. Revenue from solar power generation rose to ₹1,138.23 crore, up from ₹722.52 crore, while electricity trading activities brought in ₹3,172.14 crore compared to ₹2,655.43 crore in the previous year. These figures highlight the continued high demand for power in the Indian market.

However, operating costs remain a central point for investors to monitor. Total expenses for the company rose to ₹48,059.30 crore during the quarter. A significant portion of this expenditure, ₹28,628.19 crore, was driven by fuel costs. As a major thermal power generator, NTPC faces the ongoing challenge of managing fuel price volatility, which directly impacts profit margins. The ability to pass on these costs effectively through power purchase agreements remains a key factor in maintaining financial health.

On a standalone basis, NTPC reported a profit of ₹5,319.94 crore, which is a 14.3% increase over the previous year's figure of ₹4,653.33 crore. Following these results, the Board of Directors approved an interim dividend of ₹3 per equity share for the current financial year. Shareholders who hold the stock on the record date of November 6, 2026, will be eligible for this payment, with the funds scheduled to reach accounts starting November 25, 2026.

Looking ahead, NTPC is in the middle of a massive expansion phase, shifting its focus toward renewable energy to diversify its portfolio. While its thermal assets generate steady cash flow, the company is committing large amounts of money to build solar, wind, and green energy capacity. For investors, the critical monitorable will be the company’s ability to execute these green projects on time and within budget, while managing the debt levels required to fund such significant expansion. Balancing traditional power generation stability with the long-term goal of renewable energy growth will determine the company’s financial trajectory in the coming quarters.
