Nabinagar Expansion Boosts NTPC's Generation Capacity
The National Thermal Power Corporation's (NTPC) Nabinagar facility in Bihar is set for a major capacity upgrade. Its Stage II expansion will add three new 800 MW units, increasing the plant's total capacity to over 4,360 MW. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance power supply to Bihar, providing an estimated 1,500 MW more.
Advanced Technology for Increased Output
NTPC Nabinagar's new 800 MW units will feature advanced ultra-supercritical technology for better thermal efficiency and air-cooled condensers to reduce water usage. L K Behera, Head of Project at NTPC Nabinagar, stated the project is vital for meeting Bihar's growing energy needs.
Strong Performance and Sector Standing
In the fiscal year 2025-26, the Nabinagar plant generated over 12,932 Million Units (MU) of electricity. It achieved a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 78.28 percent, demonstrating strong operational performance. This output positions the plant well within India's energy sector, where expanding capacity and adopting new technologies are key to meeting rising demand.
Community Focus and Future Prospects
NTPC Nabinagar also supports over 22 surrounding villages through its corporate social responsibility programs. The expansion is anticipated to further strengthen NTPC's role in India's energy infrastructure, contributing to national power security and regional development. NTPC's future outlook is positive, driven by continued capacity growth and a focus on efficiency.
