Joint Nuclear Project Exploration
India's NTPC Limited and France's Electricite de France (EDF) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore new nuclear power projects across India. The partnership aims to assess the feasibility of developing these projects collaboratively.
Evaluating Advanced Reactor Technology
The collaboration will specifically focus on evaluating EDF's EPR technology for its suitability to Indian requirements. It also aims to explore opportunities for localization to support large-scale deployment, alongside a thorough examination of the economic and tariff aspects of potential projects. Beyond technology, the agreement encompasses building human resource capabilities through dedicated training programs and identifying suitable project sites.
NTPC's Expansion Plans and Other Updates
This initiative aligns with NTPC's broader strategy to expand into clean and reliable energy sources, reinforcing India's commitment to long-term energy security. NTPC currently operates over 89 GW of installed capacity, with an additional 32 GW under construction, and aims to reach 149 GW by 2032, including significant renewable energy contributions.
Separately, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) recently upgraded the capacity of two units at NTPC's Dadri Thermal Power Station from 490 MW each to 500 MW each, effective April 7, 2026. NTPC shares closed at ₹373.00 on April 8, up 1.13% amid mild positive market sentiment.
