Subansiri Project Reaches Key Milestone

NHPC announced Tuesday it has begun commercial electricity supply from the fourth unit of its 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project. This adds another 250 MW to the national grid.

Project Details and Progress

The Subansiri project, costing about ₹27,000 crore, is situated near North Lakhimpur, straddling the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It includes eight units, each rated at 250 MW. With Unit 4 now operational, four of the eight units are running, increasing NHPC's overall power generation capacity.

Boosting Power Generation

The Subansiri project is India's largest hydroelectric development and uses a run-of-river system on the Subansiri River. Unit 4's commissioning brings the project closer to its full 2,000 MW capacity, which is expected to boost NHPC's revenue. NHPC stated that it will announce the operational dates for the remaining units as they become ready, marking ongoing progress for this major infrastructure project.
