Maharashtra Boosts Nuclear Power Capacity
The Maharashtra government has signed major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 6.5 lakh crore with four prominent energy companies. These agreements signal a significant expansion into nuclear energy for the state.
The MoUs were signed with NTPC Limited, Adani Power Limited, Reliance Industries Limited, and the Bajaj Group's Lalitpur Power Generation Company Limited. The projects are expected to add 25,400 MW of power generation capacity and create over 123,500 jobs within Maharashtra.
Major Investments in Nuclear Projects
Key investments include Reliance Industries Limited's plan to invest between Rs 8,000 crore and Rs 2 lakh crore for small modular reactors (SMRs) at Purnagadh in Ratnagiri, targeting 7,200 MW. Adani Power Limited will establish a 6,000 MW nuclear power plant at Barsu, also in Ratnagiri, with an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
NTPC Limited committed Rs 1 lakh crore for 7,200 MW of capacity, expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs. The Bajaj Group's Lalitpur Power Generation Company Limited will invest Rs 2 lakh crore to develop 5,000 MW of capacity, anticipating the generation of around 3,000 jobs.
