Adani Energy Solutions Q2 Profit Jumps 145% to ₹1,364 Crore

Adani Energy Solutions reported a 145% jump in net profit to ₹1,364 crore for the second quarter of FY27. Total income increased by 51% to ₹10,239 crore, supported by growth in its smart metering business and transmission projects. The company now holds a transmission order book of ₹87,000 crore, with significant capital spending focused on new infrastructure projects.

Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) recorded a consolidated net profit of ₹1,364 crore for the quarter ending September 2026, marking a 145% increase compared to the ₹557 crore reported in the same period last year. Total revenue for the quarter reached ₹10,239 crore, representing a 51% rise, driven by its transmission and smart metering business segments.

The company’s core transmission segment is seeing substantial growth, bolstered by recent project acquisitions. AESL secured transmission projects in Vizag and Satara, which helped push its active under-construction order book to ₹87,000 crore. This growth in the transmission business is part of a larger trend in the Indian power sector where private and public players are scaling up capacity to meet increasing energy demand. In the domestic transmission space, there is an active tendering pipeline estimated at approximately ₹1.4 lakh crore, offering potential for further project wins.

Operational Performance and Smart Metering

Operational profitability also showed gains, with EBITDA climbing 67% to ₹3,548 crore. The smart metering division has emerged as a key contributor to revenue. The company has installed 14.82 million smart meters to date and holds an additional order book for 24.6 million units, representing a revenue potential of ₹29,519 crore. These installations are crucial for modernizing distribution networks and improving billing accuracy, though they require significant coordination with various state-owned electricity distribution companies.

In the distribution segment, the company’s Mumbai business reported an 11% increase in electricity sales volume for the first half of the fiscal year. Furthermore, the company secured a 2.5 GW round-the-clock power supply contract with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, adding to its recurring revenue streams.

Financial Context and Project Execution

The company has accelerated its capital spending to fund these projects. During the first half of FY27, capital expenditure in the transmission segment reached ₹5,542 crore, which is 1.7 times the amount spent in the same period last year. While this aggressive spending supports growth, it also highlights the scale of financial resources required. Investors often look at how large projects are funded and whether they can be executed on time to ensure return on capital.

Large-scale infrastructure projects, similar to those undertaken by peers like Power Grid Corporation of India, involve execution risks, such as delays in land acquisition, regulatory clearances, or cost increases. Maintaining project delivery timelines while managing the high capital requirements and potential debt impact will be a key area for shareholders to monitor in the coming quarters. The company’s ability to manage these factors will determine the consistency of its profitability and cash flow as it continues to expand its national footprint in the energy infrastructure space.
