Short Description :

Indian stock market indices, the S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, opened lower on Thursday. Despite a widely expected rate cut by the US Federal Reserve, investor sentiment remains cautious ahead of crucial trade deal discussions. Foreign Institutional Investors turned net sellers, but strong buying by Domestic Institutional Investors provided some support. Analysts point to positive domestic GDP growth forecasts as a key driver, balancing global uncertainties.

Detailed Coverage :

Indian benchmark stock market indices commenced trading on Thursday with a decline. The S&P BSE Sensex fell by 251.52 points to 84,745.61, while the NSE Nifty50 slipped 81.55 points to 25,972.35 by 9:23 am.

This cautious opening occurred even as the United States Federal Reserve implemented a widely anticipated interest rate cut. Investor sentiment is subdued, primarily due to upcoming trade negotiations between global powers and foreign institutional investors turning net sellers in the previous session, as noted by Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Limited. Comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell also tempered expectations for further rate cuts in December.

However, domestic factors are providing some support. Dr. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, highlighted the Chief Economic Adviser's forecast that India's GDP growth could reach 7%. This positive outlook is driven by strong consumption and signs of a pick-up in capital expenditure, evidenced by recent order wins for Larsen & Toubro Limited. He anticipates potential for a mild market rally but not a significant surge.

Technically, the Nifty50 is maintaining a sideways-to-bullish bias above the 25,900–26,000 support zone, with resistance anticipated at 26,100–26,200. The Bank Nifty shows support at 58,100–58,200 and resistance at 58,600–58,700.

On the flows front, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 2,540.2 crore on October 30, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought Rs 5,692.8 crore, indicating robust local institutional buying.

Impact: This news impacts the Indian stock market by reflecting immediate investor caution driven by global trade uncertainties and FII outflows, juxtaposed against positive domestic economic indicators and strong DII inflows. These conflicting forces will shape short-term market direction. Rating: 8/10
