Asian stock markets rebounded on Thursday, reversing losses from the previous session. This recovery was driven by robust US economic indicators released on Wednesday. The US services sector expanded at its fastest pace in eight months in October, and private employment saw a stronger-than-expected increase of 42,000 jobs. These positive figures have led traders to decrease their bets on a Federal Reserve interest rate cut in December, with probabilities now around 60% compared to earlier estimates of 70%.
This recalibration of Fed policy expectations has supported the US dollar, which held near a five-month high, and US Treasury yields, which climbed following the data. Wall Street also saw gains overnight, with investor jitters about high technology stock valuations easing amid upbeat corporate earnings.
Markets in Asia followed suit: Japan's Nikkei surged 1.5%, and South Korea's Kospi jumped over 2%. MSCI's Asia-Pacific shares index outside Japan also saw a modest rise.
Impact This news has a moderate impact on the Indian stock market by influencing global investor sentiment and economic outlook. Strong US data and potential shifts in Federal Reserve policy can affect capital flows and currency valuations, indirectly influencing Indian markets. The reduction in Fed rate cut expectations might lead to slightly tighter global liquidity conditions. Rating: 6/10.
