Sensex, Nifty Rebound: Key Levels to Watch as Markets Recover

Indian stock indices Sensex and Nifty recovered in Friday’s session as investors initiated value buying following a ten-week correction. The market saw some relief as the India VIX volatility gauge cooled to 12.32 and global crude oil prices softened slightly. While this bounce offers temporary respite, analysts are watching the 23,300 level, which remains a key resistance point for the Nifty 50 to confirm a trend reversal.

Indian equity markets staged a recovery in Friday's session, with the S&P BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 clawing back from losses seen in the previous session. This rebound was driven largely by value buying, as investors looked to pick up quality stocks that had become cheaper after a sharp ten-week correction period. Market sentiment received a modest boost as the India VIX, a gauge that measures investor anxiety, fell 3 percent to settle at 12.32. A lower VIX typically suggests that investors are feeling slightly more comfortable compared to periods of high market panic.

Falling crude oil prices also provided some relief to the domestic market. Brent crude futures dipped 0.82 percent to trade at $105.73 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate fell 1.65 percent to $93.05. For Indian investors, crude oil prices are a major monitorable because India imports a large portion of its oil requirements. High oil prices often pressure the country's import bill and can lead to inflation concerns, so any cooling in these prices is generally viewed as a supporting factor for the domestic economy. However, despite the recent dip, Brent crude prices remain above the $100 mark, meaning inflationary pressure remains a factor to watch.

From a technical perspective, market participants remain cautious about the strength of this recovery. Analysts have identified the 23,200 to 23,300 range as a critical resistance hurdle for the Nifty 50 index. Resistance is a price level where selling pressure often increases, making it difficult for the index to move higher. If the index fails to break and sustain above this 23,300 zone, it may face renewed selling pressure. On the downside, 23,000 acts as a key psychological support level, supported by a significant volume of put open interest, which represents contracts that traders use to hedge against further falls.

Investors may monitor whether the market can maintain this momentum in the coming sessions. A decisive breakout above 23,300 would be required to signal a stronger shift in sentiment toward the 23,500 level. Without this breakout, the broader market structure still carries a bearish tilt, meaning volatility could return if the index struggles near these resistance points.
