PSU Stocks Surge: EIL, ITI Lead Rally on Q2 Results (Nov 2)

Public sector stocks climbed on November 2, 2026, as BSE PSU and CPSE indices gained 2%. Investors showed strong demand for Engineers India and ITI following positive quarterly earnings and robust order inflows. While the market remains optimistic about government-backed infrastructure projects, investors should track execution timelines and policy dependencies that could impact future performance.

Public sector undertakings (PSUs) dominated market sentiment on Monday, November 2, 2026, as both the BSE PSU and CPSE indices climbed 2%. The rally was driven by a wave of positive quarterly financial results and strong order book updates, which renewed investor confidence in state-backed enterprises.

Engineers India and Order Book Strength

Engineers India (EIL) emerged as a key focus after reporting strong quarterly performance. The company posted a 56% year-on-year jump in net profit to ₹180 crore for the quarter ended September 2026. A standout metric for investors is the firm's record order book, which reached ₹20,421 crore as of September 30, 2026. This large backlog is critical for the company, as it provides clear visibility on future revenue. Because EIL operates heavily in the consultancy and engineering space, these projects often carry better profit margins than traditional manufacturing or commodity-based work. However, the company’s performance remains sensitive to the pace of capital spending in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

ITI's Digital Infrastructure Focus

ITI Limited also saw a significant rally, with shares surging 19% on high trading volumes. The momentum appears tied to the company's involvement in domestic digital infrastructure initiatives, such as BharatNet and the 'Make in India' program. For investors, ITI represents a play on the government's push for digital connectivity. While order inflows are a positive trigger, the company has historically faced challenges related to financial stability and cash flow, which investors often monitor alongside the excitement of new government contracts.

Broader Sector Momentum and Risks

Other major PSUs also contributed to the positive market tone. NTPC shares rose as the utility reported a 14% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹5,320 crore, alongside an interim dividend announcement. Meanwhile, Coal India saw gains of approximately 4% after production data showed a 19% year-on-year increase for October, highlighting sustained demand for coal in the power sector.

Despite the optimism, the sector carries specific structural risks. For infrastructure and utility firms like NTPC and EIL, the primary concern remains execution risk. Complex projects, especially in the renewable energy space, have faced transmission and commissioning delays, which can force companies to revise their growth guidance. Additionally, many of these firms are heavily dependent on government-led capital expenditure cycles. Any shifts in policy or delays in releasing funds for large national projects can directly impact their revenue and profit margins. Investors should monitor how effectively these companies convert their massive order books into actual cash flow and profit in the coming quarters.
