Overview

India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) has exposed a fake, AI-generated video showing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoting an investment scam. The fake clip falsely promises Rs 5.5 lakh weekly returns from a Rs 22,000 investment. PIB warns the public to stay vigilant.

PIB Warns of AI-Powered Investment Scams

India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a warning about an online scam using artificial intelligence. A video spreading on social media falsely shows Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing a high-return investment scheme. PIB confirmed the video is fake and not connected to the Finance Minister or the Indian government.

Fake Promises of High Returns

The fake video claims people can earn Rs 5.5 lakh every week by investing only Rs 22,000. The AI voice, made to sound like the Finance Minister, guarantees these returns and falsely calls it an "official government project." These claims target people looking for quick money, using the minister's image to deceive them.

PIB Issues Public Warning

PIB stressed that the Finance Minister and the government have not endorsed any such investment platform. The bureau urged citizens to be very careful, check all investment claims with official sources, and report fake content found online. PIB noted that AI is increasingly used to spread false information and scams.

Be Wary of Unrealistic Investment Offers

Authorities advise the public to be wary of any platform promising very high returns with little risk or investment, especially if promoted using fake or manipulated media. Official government information and financial advice are the only reliable sources for legitimate schemes.
