Indian Markets Eye Rebound Today As Fed Speech Approaches

Indian equity markets are positioned for a potential recovery on August 28, 2026, following a two-day decline. Investors are focused on US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s upcoming keynote address, which may clarify the path for future global interest rates.

Indian benchmark indices are setting up for a cautious start to trading on Friday, August 28, 2026. The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex, which faced pressure over the last two sessions, are looking to stabilize as trading begins. On Thursday, August 27, the Nifty 50 closed down 0.48% at 24,090.85, while the Sensex slipped 0.70% to 76,933.59. The primary question for investors today is whether the indices can successfully defend the critical 24,000 support level.

A central focus for the market today is the Jackson Hole economic symposium. Investors are waiting for the keynote address by US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh. The comments from the central bank head often dictate the direction of global capital, particularly regarding interest rate expectations. Any signal on inflation control or liquidity will likely influence stock prices and the movement of foreign capital in emerging markets like India.

Institutional data from the previous session highlights the current market mood. While foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth approximately ₹298.26 crore, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued to provide strong backing with net purchases of ₹4,977.17 crore. This persistent domestic buying has helped act as a buffer against foreign outflows during the recent market corrections.

Sectors including banking, metals, and cement have faced recent selling pressure, contributing to the broader index weakness. Investors are monitoring whether these sectors can find buyers at lower price levels today. With global cues remaining mixed and gold prices trading near $4,600 an ounce, the market remains cautious. A failure to hold the 24,000 support level for the Nifty 50 could potentially lead to further testing of lower levels in the 23,600 to 23,800 range. The next important move for the market will depend on both the Fed's commentary and whether domestic buying strength continues to absorb the selling pressure.
