Indian Markets Eye Positive Start Monday As Crude Oil Eases

Indian stock markets are expected to open higher on August 3, 2026, supported by falling crude oil prices and renewed Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) interest. Investors are now shifting their focus toward the upcoming Reserve Bank of India monetary policy announcement for further direction on interest rates and liquidity.

Indian equity markets are set for a firm start to the trading week as global cues and domestic factors align in favor of investors. Gift Nifty futures point toward an opening gain, reflecting positive sentiment fueled by a decline in crude oil prices and consistent capital inflows from overseas investors.

FPI Inflows and Market Confidence

A major highlight for the market is the return of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs). After four months of consistent selling, FPIs turned net buyers in July, pumping ₹20,200 crore into Indian equities. Data shows that ₹6,700 crore was invested directly through stock exchanges, while ₹13,400 crore was deployed through the primary market. This shift suggests that institutional investors are increasingly viewing Indian large-cap stocks as a stable destination compared to other regional markets experiencing volatility, such as South Korea and Taiwan.

Impact of Lower Oil Prices

Crude oil prices, with WTI trading around the $80-$81 per barrel mark, have provided much-needed relief to the domestic economy. As a major importer of oil, India benefits directly from price stabilization, which helps in controlling the import bill and cooling off potential inflationary pressures on corporate input costs. This reduction in the country's risk premium is currently acting as a supporting factor for investor sentiment heading into the trading session.

RBI Policy and Interest Rate Outlook

While external conditions remain favorable, market attention is narrowing down to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) upcoming monetary policy review. The central bank is expected to balance domestic economic growth with inflation control. A critical monitorable for investors will be the RBI’s commentary on liquidity management, especially given that elevated U.S. Treasury yields could influence domestic bond markets and limit the pace of potential rate adjustments. Experts suggest that the central bank may adopt a neutral and cautious stance to ensure financial stability against the backdrop of global interest rate trends. Investors should look out for any specific guidance on inflation targets and liquidity support in the official policy statement later this week.
