Indian Markets Eye Positive Start As Earnings Impress

Indian markets are set for a positive start today, with GIFT Nifty indicating an 83-point gain as strong corporate earnings bolster sentiment. While Hindustan Zinc and Bajaj Finance delivered robust results, investors are tracking rising Brent crude prices above $110 per barrel and geopolitical risks in the Middle East.

Domestic markets are expected to open on a positive note today, supported by positive global cues and a strong start to the corporate earnings season. GIFT Nifty futures point toward an 83-point gain, reflecting optimism that follows a period of recent weakness. Investors are closely evaluating the latest financial scorecards, which provide a buffer against broader economic uncertainties and shifting global trends.

Hindustan Zinc led the corporate earnings scorecard with a 142% surge in consolidated net profit, reaching ₹6,412 crore, alongside a 76.5% jump in operating revenue. Bajaj Finance also sustained its growth momentum, reporting a 29% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹6,367 crore. A key highlight for the non-banking lender was the addition of over ₹37,000 crore to its assets under management, signalling strong credit demand. In the technology sector, L&T Technology Services also posted a 66.78% increase in net profit, which stood at ₹548.2 crore.

The power financing sector remains a point of interest as the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency reported a profit of ₹554 crore. While the company saw a healthy 31% rise in loan disbursements, the profit increase was marginal, a development that investors typically watch as it may point to competitive pricing or changes in borrowing costs. Meanwhile, in the banking space, YES Bank addressed market concerns regarding its capital structure. The lender clarified that the potential reinstatement of AT1 bonds would not necessitate an immediate capital raise, citing that it has sufficient alternative options available to manage its capital ratios.

Despite the positive earnings sentiment, macroeconomic headwinds remain a concern for the market. Energy markets are facing renewed pressure as Brent crude oil prices trade at $110.20 per barrel. Supply-side worries, fuelled by potential disruptions in Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure and persistent instability in the Middle East, have kept price volatility elevated. Higher oil prices can act as a significant cost pressure for the Indian manufacturing sector, as it increases the cost of raw materials and energy.

Investors will continue to track how corporate India manages these rising input costs in upcoming quarterly results. The market will also look for management commentary on demand trends and any impact of geopolitical tensions on supply chains. The next important step for investors will be to monitor whether companies can maintain their profit margins if energy prices remain high or if they choose to pass these costs on to consumers.
