Deeper Ties: India & Netherlands Boost Cooperation
The new strategic partnership between India and the Netherlands deepens bilateral ties through 2030. Agreed by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Rob Jetten, the framework builds on existing trade deals to boost collaboration in high-growth sectors. Annual meetings of the Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) will guide initiatives in renewable energy, telecoms, infrastructure, semiconductors, pharma, medical tech, and agriculture.
Securing Critical Minerals, Strengthening Supply Chains
Both nations are focused on strengthening critical mineral supply chains and diversifying global sourcing. They've agreed to support partnerships across the raw materials value chain, from exploration and research to innovation and recycling. This aligns with global efforts to build more secure and resilient supply lines for essential resources.
Tech and Innovation: Semiconductors, AI, Quantum
Semiconductors and emerging technologies are central to this partnership. Key goals include exploring trusted semiconductor supply chains and expanding work in artificial intelligence, photonics, quantum technologies, and cybersecurity. The partnership will also build ties between Dutch universities and leading Indian institutes like the Indian Institute of Science and IITs. Companies such as ASML, NXP Semiconductors, and Tata Electronics are expected to participate.
Green Energy and Maritime Routes
The roadmap supports clean energy and sustainable maritime routes. A Joint Working Group on Renewable Energy will work on a green hydrogen corridor connecting Indian production to European markets. A 'Green and Digital Sea Corridor' is also planned to create an environmentally friendly and digitally connected maritime route between India and the Netherlands, improving efficiency and cutting emissions.
Defense Cooperation and Broader Links
In defense, the partnership aims to deepen naval cooperation and explore joint ventures in defense technology, potentially leading to a defense industrial roadmap. Cooperation will also cover water management, climate-resilient farming, urban development, migration, and counterterrorism, showing a wide-ranging approach to bilateral relations.
