The Finance Ministry has authorized 19 private sector banks, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank, to accept Capital Gains Account Scheme (CGAS) deposits for the first time. This expansion broadens access beyond public sector banks. The scheme has also been updated with Section 54GA, allowing deposits from gains related to shifting industrial undertakings to SEZs, in addition to property reinvestments under Section 54.
