The much-anticipated 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana is slated for disbursement in the first half of November. Eligible farmers will receive ₹2,000, contributing to their total annual income support of ₹6,000, distributed in three equal parts. While the official date is yet to be announced, early payments have commenced in states such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, particularly for those affected by recent natural calamities.
A critical condition for receiving this payment is the mandatory completion of e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer). Farmers must ensure their e-KYC is updated via the official PM-Kisan portal using OTP-based verification or by visiting a Common Service Centre (CSC) for biometric e-KYC. Failure to complete this step will render farmers ineligible for the instalment. The scheme targets small and marginal farmer households with landholdings up to five acres.
Impact: This scheme significantly boosts rural purchasing power, supporting demand for consumer goods, agricultural inputs, and other rural-focused products. While it's a direct welfare transfer, sustained rural income indirectly benefits companies catering to this segment, contributing to overall economic stability. Impact Rating: 5/10.
Difficult Terms: e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer): A digital process to verify a customer's identity, typically using Aadhaar and mobile number, for financial transactions and service access. Instalment: A portion of a larger amount of money paid over a period of time. Disbursement: The act of paying out money. OTP (One-Time Password): A unique, temporary code sent to a registered mobile number for verification. Biometric-based e-KYC: Identity verification using unique biological characteristics like fingerprints or iris scans. Marginal farmers: Farmers who own very small landholdings, often too small to be fully self-sufficient. Aadhaar number: A unique 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
