Avenue Supermarts Profit Rises 8.5%, Poonawalla Fincorp Surges

Avenue Supermarts posted an 8.5% profit rise to ₹743 crore, while Poonawalla Fincorp saw profits jump five-fold in Q2 FY27. Meanwhile, KEC International added ₹1,014 crore in new orders. Investors are currently weighing mixed earnings results against infrastructure momentum as the second-quarter report season progresses.

The second-quarter earnings season is in full swing, bringing a divergence in performance across major companies. Avenue Supermarts, the operator of the DMart retail chain, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹742.98 crore for the quarter ended September 2026, marking an 8.5% increase compared to the previous year. While revenue climbed 17.8% to reach ₹19,644 crore, the company faced a 20 basis point contraction in EBITDA margins, which settled at 7.1%. For investors, this suggests that rising operational costs, including wage inflation at the store level, remain a factor that could impact profitability even as top-line revenue continues to grow.

In the financial sector, Poonawalla Fincorp delivered a sharp performance, with its net profit surging 405% year-on-year to ₹375 crore. This growth was supported by a 75.6% increase in net interest income, which stood at ₹1,589 crore for the quarter. While the profit jump highlights strong assets under management, investors in the non-banking financial company (NBFC) space typically keep a close watch on broader sector risks, such as interest rate sensitivity and the management of credit costs, which can fluctuate with market conditions.

Not all companies shared in this positive momentum. Anand Rathi Wealth reported a 10.4% dip in quarterly profits, even though its revenue grew by 15.7%. This contrast highlights how different business models are reacting to the current economic environment, with some firms managing to protect margins better than others.

Infrastructure and utility companies continue to secure significant order inflows. KEC International announced new domestic orders worth ₹1,014 crore, which include its first 765 kV transmission line project designed for a pumped storage plant. This win pushes the company’s year-to-date order intake beyond ₹9,600 crore. Bajel Projects also strengthened its order book by landing a ₹200 crore contract from Tata Power Company for gas-insulated switchgear projects in Mumbai. These developments reflect a continued focus on utility-related infrastructure spending across the country.

In other corporate developments, market participants are monitoring potential shifts in shareholding. Reports indicate that Alpha Wave Ventures is planning a block deal to sell up to 1.6% of its stake in Lenskart Solutions, a transaction valued at approximately ₹1,691 crore. Large-scale stake sales by institutional investors can sometimes lead to short-term volatility in share price, depending on buyer demand. Additionally, Persistent Systems has consolidated its position in Nagarro SE, reporting an aggregate shareholding of 94.04% following its latest voluntary takeover offer. Investors will continue to track further earnings announcements and management commentary on future demand and cost pressures.
