Amit Shah Sets 3-Year Justice Timeline; Outlines Dairy Investment

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a three-year deadline for resolving criminal cases as part of judicial reforms. Alongside this, the government is prioritizing the dairy sector, including a ₹255-crore milk processing project in Ujjain and a significant push for nationwide forensic infrastructure modernization.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that India’s new criminal justice framework aims to resolve legal cases within three years, from the filing of an FIR to the final ruling by the Supreme Court. The initiative, which centers on the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, is designed to reduce pendency and modernize the judicial system through technology. The government expects to fully roll out these reforms within the coming year.

A significant part of this modernization involves a major capital spending plan. The government has committed ₹30,000 crore over five years to build a nationwide network of forensic laboratories. This massive investment creates potential opportunities for companies involved in civil construction, high-tech laboratory equipment, and digital infrastructure integration as state agencies upgrade their forensic capabilities to meet the new legal standards.

Alongside judicial reforms, the focus on the dairy sector suggests a broader push for rural economic development. During an event in Bhopal, the government emphasized the cooperative model to support farmers. This includes the development of a ₹255-crore milk processing plant in Ujjain, which is designed to have a capacity of three lakh litres per day. Projects like this, supported by cooperatives such as KRIBHCO, highlight the ongoing efforts to remove intermediaries and improve the agricultural supply chain.

From a market perspective, these announcements point to continued government spending in critical infrastructure areas. The push to digitize the justice system and expand dairy processing facilities highlights a trend of public capital allocation toward administrative and agricultural value chains. For businesses in the infrastructure, technology, and dairy equipment sectors, this could translate into steady demand. However, the final impact on the economy and specific companies will depend on how efficiently these projects are executed at the state level.

The key monitorable for the justice reform will be the operational capacity of state police forces and the judicial system. Success hinges on integrating complex digital platforms like CCTNS and ICJS and ensuring the new forensic laboratories are fully functional within the proposed timeline. Investors may track the pace of these infrastructure deployments and whether the planned investments are effectively utilized to meet the ambitious efficiency goals.
