Wipro Consumer Care Launches 'Snuggles' In ₹5,500 Cr Pet Food Market

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has entered the Indian pet food market with its new brand, 'Snuggles', targeting the growing ₹5,500 crore sector. The company is using an omnichannel strategy to sell its dry dog food range. It is important for investors to note that Wipro Consumer Care is an unlisted entity under Wipro Enterprises, and this move is separate from the publicly traded Wipro Limited.

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting officially entered the Indian pet food market on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, with the launch of its new brand, 'Snuggles'. The company is introducing a line of dry dog food products that feature freeze-dried chicken and human-grade ingredients, aiming to capture a share of an industry estimated to be worth over ₹5,500 crore.

For stock market investors, it is essential to distinguish between the entities involved. Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting is a private, unlisted company operating under the umbrella of Wipro Enterprises Limited. It was formed following the 2012 demerger from Wipro Limited, the publicly listed IT services giant. Consequently, this strategic expansion does not directly impact the balance sheet, margins, or share price of Wipro Limited.

This launch marks a significant step in the company's diversification strategy. The move into pet nutrition is not entirely new for the group; in June 2025, Wipro Consumer Care made a strategic investment in 'Goofy Tails', a pet care startup, through its venture arm. By launching 'Snuggles', the company is shifting from being an investor in the space to a direct participant, attempting to scale its presence in a competitive consumer category.

To reach consumers, the company is deploying an omnichannel approach. The products will be sold through specialized pet retail stores, veterinary clinics, modern trade outlets, and online platforms, including quick-commerce channels. This strategy is designed to balance premium product positioning with accessibility.

The pet food sector in India is highly competitive, dominated by established international players such as Mars Petcare—known for brands like Pedigree and Royal Canin—and Nestlé Purina. These incumbents have a long history of brand loyalty and widespread distribution networks. The primary challenge for Wipro Consumer Care will be executing its supply chain and distribution strategy effectively, especially given that a large portion of Indian pet owners are first-time buyers who are still establishing brand preferences.

Investors monitoring the consumer goods sector may track how effectively the company scales this new brand and whether it faces pressure from established competitors on pricing or distribution. Success in this category requires balancing the cost of premium ingredients with competitive pricing to gain market share in a segment where customer acquisition remains a key long-term focus.
