Motilal Oswal has maintained its 'BUY' rating on VIP Industries with a target price of Rs 430, despite a weak performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company reported a net loss of Rs 53.56 crore, but the brokerage suggests that the most difficult operational challenges may now be behind the firm as it shifts focus toward new products and brand revamps.
Motilal Oswal has reiterated its 'BUY' recommendation for VIP Industries, setting a target price of Rs 430 per share. This view is based on the brokerage's long-term outlook for the company's earnings, specifically looking toward its performance in the 2028 fiscal year.
The update follows the company's financial results for the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year (Q1FY27), which were below market expectations. VIP Industries reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 578.36 crore, representing a modest 3% increase compared to the same quarter last year. However, profitability was under pressure, with the company posting a net loss of Rs 53.56 crore for the period ending June 30, 2026.
Despite the soft start to the year, the brokerage maintains a positive stance, suggesting that the most significant operational hurdles are likely in the past. The company has been working on several strategic changes to drive growth. This includes the launch of over 80 new products, which accounted for roughly half of its total revenue during the quarter. VIP Industries is also investing in brand-building initiatives, such as influencer campaigns and website revamps, to reach more customers.
Under new leadership, including the team headed by Mr. Atul Jain, the company is also working to optimize inventory levels and clean up its distribution network. The brokerage believes these actions, combined with a general shift toward higher-value luggage products, could help the company recover its profit margins and regain market share in the coming quarters.
While the outlook is optimistic, the company still faces notable risks that investors may monitor. The luggage sector remains highly competitive, with both local and established brands vying for market share. Additionally, the company is sensitive to input costs, which can impact its ability to maintain healthy profit margins. Another specific area to watch is the manufacturing facility in Bangladesh. Any prolonged disruption at this site could affect the company’s ability to meet product demand.
The recovery plan depends heavily on how effectively the company executes its new product strategy and how quickly it can stabilize its operations. Investors may track future quarterly results to see if the promised margin improvement and revenue growth begin to materialize, as well as any updates regarding stability at the company's manufacturing plants.
