Uniqlo India Revenue Hits ₹1,724 Cr in FY26, Up 44%

Uniqlo India reported a 44% rise in revenue to ₹1,724 crore for FY26, with profits climbing 41% to ₹253 crore. This performance stands out as some retail peers saw revenue declines or slower growth. The company plans to continue expanding its store count and digital presence to capture more market share in the Indian apparel sector.

Uniqlo India, the Japanese retail brand, recorded strong growth for the fiscal year ended March 2026. The company’s revenue rose 44% to ₹1,724 crore compared to the previous year. Net profit also saw a significant increase of 41%, reaching ₹253 crore. This performance marks a period of rapid scaling for the brand, which has seen its annual sales more than quadruple since 2022.

The results provide an interesting view of the changing trends in India’s apparel retail market. While Uniqlo has grown quickly, other established players have faced challenges. For instance, Zara, operated in India through a joint venture involving Trent, reported a 1.2% decline in revenue to ₹2,749 crore for the same period. In contrast, domestic retailers like Shoppers Stop and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail saw more modest growth rates of 9% and 11%, respectively.

Uniqlo’s management credits this growth to its focus on everyday basics and functional clothing. This strategy sets it apart from the fast-fashion model, which relies on rapidly changing styles. By offering apparel designed for daily use, the company has managed to build a consistent customer base in a price-sensitive market. This indicates that a segment of Indian consumers is increasingly prioritizing product utility and durability.

Looking ahead, the company is set to continue its expansion in India. The roadmap includes opening new physical stores in both existing urban clusters and new territories. Alongside physical expansion, the company is investing in its mobile application and e-commerce platforms to improve its reach and customer engagement. Parent company Fast Retailing has identified India as a high-potential region and continues to support this growth with significant investment.

For investors, Uniqlo’s success serves as a bellwether for the apparel retail sector. Although the brand is not a publicly listed stock in India, its performance highlights that there is appetite for organized retail that offers functional value. However, the sector still carries inherent risks, such as the high cost of real estate for new store openings, supply chain complexities, and intense competition from both global and local brands. Future updates on how the company manages to sustain its profit margins while spending heavily on store and digital expansion will be useful to track.
