Reliance Brands Signs Exclusive Deal to Launch SKIMS in India

Reliance Brands Limited has signed an exclusive partnership to bring Kim Kardashian’s fashion label, SKIMS, to India. The expansion will feature flagship stores in Delhi and Mumbai, supported by a digital platform. This move strengthens Reliance Retail’s portfolio of international lifestyle brands as it looks to tap into the rising demand for premium global fashion in the country.

Reliance Brands Limited (RBL), a division of Reliance Retail Ventures, has finalized an exclusive partnership to introduce the global shapewear and lifestyle brand SKIMS to the Indian market. This agreement marks the official entry of the US-based apparel label, which has gained significant international traction since its founding in 2019.

The rollout strategy involves establishing a physical retail presence with initial flagship stores in New Delhi and Mumbai, while also launching a dedicated digital platform to serve the broader Indian market. The company plans to follow this with a phased expansion into other major cities.

For Reliance Industries, this collaboration aligns with its long-term strategy to build a robust portfolio of international fashion and lifestyle brands. By bringing established global names to India, the company aims to cater to an evolving consumer base that increasingly prefers premium and globally recognized labels. This is part of a broader effort by Reliance Retail to capture a larger share of India’s growing discretionary spending market, which covers everything from luxury goods to everyday fashion.

While this brand represents a niche in the company's vast retail ecosystem, it highlights the management's focus on high-growth segments. SKIMS’ international expansion has followed a similar model, with recent entries into markets such as London and Dubai, and future plans for regions like Hong Kong and Seoul.

From a business perspective, retail operations in the premium and luxury apparel segment come with specific considerations. The success of such brands is closely tied to discretionary consumer spending, which can be sensitive to inflationary pressures or changes in economic sentiment. Additionally, the Indian premium retail landscape is highly competitive, and the company will need to effectively manage the operational costs associated with setting up and maintaining physical stores in prime metro locations.

Investors may monitor the timeline for the physical store openings and how the company integrates the brand’s digital presence with its retail outlets. The long-term value of this partnership will depend on the company’s ability to build consumer interest and maintain healthy profit margins as it scales the brand's presence across India.
