Recode Studios: From Shark Tank Rejection to Rs 358-Cr SME Listing

After failing to secure funding on Shark Tank India in 2023, beauty retailer Recode Studios has grown into a listed entity with a Rs 358-crore market cap. The company, which debuted on the BSE SME exchange in May 2026, now faces the challenges of sustaining growth while managing working capital needs.

In January 2023, the founders of Recode Studios faced a significant setback when judges on Shark Tank India rejected their funding proposal. Since that public rejection, the beauty and personal care brand has engineered a major turnaround, transitioning from a private startup to a publicly listed company. The firm successfully completed its initial public offering (IPO) on the BSE SME platform on May 12, 2026, marking a notable shift in its operational journey.

Financial Performance and Market Position

The company’s path to the public markets was built on a sharp focus on revenue growth and profit margins. For the fiscal year 2026, Recode Studios reported a revenue of approximately Rs 80 crore, with a net profit of Rs 11.21 crore. This performance helped drive investor appetite during its IPO, where the issue price was set at Rs 158 per share. The stock has since seen strong demand, trading around Rs 336 as of early September 2026, which has brought the company’s total market capitalization to approximately Rs 358 crore.

The business model operates as an omnichannel retailer, blending a physical store presence with digital sales. To support this scale, the company has been focusing on professionalizing its management team, recently appointing a new Company Secretary and Compliance Officer on September 1, 2026, to oversee its regulatory obligations as a listed firm.

Risks and Monitorables for Investors

While the company has shown rapid growth, investors should consider several risks inherent to its current scale and business model. As an SME-listed entity, the stock may experience lower trading volumes and liquidity compared to larger, more established companies. This can sometimes lead to higher volatility in the share price.

Operationally, the company uses an asset-light model that relies on a network of suppliers. This creates a concentration risk, where any disruption in the supply chain or issues with third-party partners could impact product availability and sales. Additionally, the company is managing the pressures of working capital. As it expands its retail reach and channel credit, rising receivables can lead to cash flow tightness. Investors should monitor the company’s upcoming quarterly results closely to see if it can maintain its profit margins while effectively managing its cash position during this expansion phase.
