Raymond Lifestyle Plans 1,670 Stores With 200 Cr Expansion

Raymond Lifestyle is aiming to reach a network of 1,670 stores by the end of the fiscal year, backed by a 200 crore rupee investment plan. The company reported a 20% revenue jump in its branded apparel segment for the second quarter, fueled by strong demand for premium and casual clothing. Investors should track how this retail expansion impacts long-term profitability and how the garmenting division handles global export demand.

Raymond Lifestyle is focusing on a major network optimization strategy as it aims to expand its retail footprint to 1,670 stores by the end of the current fiscal year. To support this growth, the company has planned a capital expenditure of approximately 200 crore rupees for FY27. Rather than just adding new locations, the management is prioritizing a strategy of closing underperforming outlets to reallocate capital into more productive areas. This shift aims to improve the overall efficiency and revenue potential of its retail network.

The company’s performance in the second quarter showed a notable increase, with the branded apparel segment generating 559 crore rupees in revenue. This marks a 20% year-on-year growth, which the management attributes to a clear consumer shift toward premium and casual wear. Specific brands within the company, such as ColorPlus and Parx, have been strong contributors to this performance. The delay in the festival calendar, which pushed more inventory loading into the second quarter, also provided a boost to the company's topline numbers.

Beyond domestic retail, the company is also focusing on its garmenting division. To capture more export opportunities, particularly following international trade developments like the UK-India Free Trade Agreement, the firm is adding seven new production lines. This division acts as a different growth lever compared to the domestic retail business, as it depends more on global demand and manufacturing scale.

For investors, the main monitorables include the company's ability to maintain these margins while aggressively expanding the store count. Retail expansion comes with inherent risks, such as the initial costs of setting up new stores and the potential for lower footfall if the chosen locations do not perform as expected. Additionally, while the company is confident about the upcoming wedding season driving sales, the broader apparel sector continues to face challenges from inflationary pressure on consumer spending. The management’s focus on inorganic growth—or acquiring other businesses—also remains a key area for investors to watch, though the company has stated it will maintain strict financial discipline regarding valuations for any such potential deals.
