Radico Khaitan Boosts Premium Portfolio, Targets Net-Debt-Free Status by 2027

Radico Khaitan is expanding its luxury spirits range to focus on the growing demand from premium consumers in India. The company’s 'Prestige & Above' segment has driven a 70% jump in Q1 fiscal year 2027 profits. With an goal to be net-debt-free by early 2027, management is balancing rapid portfolio growth with financial discipline, though high stock valuations remain a point of interest for investors.

Radico Khaitan is reshaping its business by moving its high-end brands closer to home. The distiller is prioritizing the Indian market for new premium product launches, such as its recent single malt Virasat, marking a shift from its earlier export-first strategy. The company is actively building its portfolio in gin, aged rum, and craft liqueurs to cater to younger, quality-focused Indian consumers who are increasingly moving away from mass-market volumes to higher-value options.

The success of this strategy is visible in the company’s 'Prestige & Above' segment, which now accounts for over 70% of its Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) value. This shift is not just about product variety; it is a clear effort to improve profit margins. Beyond domestic success, the company is also expanding its global footprint, with its luxury brands gaining listings in duty-free stores at four major UK airports—Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Birmingham—as of September 2026.

Investors are closely monitoring the company’s financial health as it executes these growth plans. In its Q1 fiscal year 2027 results, Radico Khaitan reported a net profit of Rs 226 crore, representing a nearly 70% increase compared to the same period last year. A critical focus for management is the balance sheet. The company has been aggressively reducing its borrowings, with an explicit goal to become net-debt-free by the first half of fiscal year 2027. This de-leveraging is a significant signal for shareholders, as it improves the company’s financial flexibility for future brand investments.

Despite these operational successes, potential risks remain that investors should consider. The stock currently trades at a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of approximately 93. This high valuation indicates that the market has high expectations for future earnings growth; if the company fails to meet these targets, the stock price could face volatility. Additionally, the Indian alcohol industry faces strict regulatory hurdles, particularly regarding advertising. Because traditional advertising is restricted in India, the company must rely on niche experiential marketing and influencer partnerships, which can be more complex to scale than traditional mass media campaigns. Furthermore, while margins have improved, the company remains exposed to fluctuations in raw material costs.

Looking ahead, the most important updates for investors will be the progression toward the net-debt-free target and the sustainability of volume growth in the premium segment as reported in upcoming quarterly results.
