Pidilite Q2 Net Profit Rises 7% as Costs Pressure Margins

Pidilite Industries reported a 20.9% revenue jump to ₹4,297.59 crore for the September quarter, but profit growth was limited to 7.16% at ₹626.46 crore. A 29% surge in expenses created margin pressure, causing the stock to fall 4.13% as investors assessed the impact of rising operational costs.

Pidilite Industries, the company behind the popular Fevicol brand, reported a performance divergence for the quarter ending September 2026. While the company achieved a strong revenue increase of 20.9% to reach ₹4,297.59 crore, its net profit grew at a significantly slower pace of 7.16% to ₹626.46 crore. This gap indicates that despite robust demand, the company's profitability was restricted by external pressures.

Impact of Rising Costs on Margins

The primary reason for the mismatch between sales and profit growth was a sharp rise in total expenditure, which increased by 29% to ₹3,632.87 crore for the quarter. When operational expenses grow faster than revenue, it puts direct pressure on profit margins—the percentage of revenue that remains as profit after accounting for all business costs. This is reflected in the company's EBITDA, a measure of core operating profitability, which saw only a modest growth of 3.1% compared to the same period last year. Management noted that significant material inflation and market volatility were the main drivers behind these increased costs.

Performance Across Business Segments

The company's performance was supported by broad-based growth across its key divisions. The Consumer and Bazaar segment, which includes its retail-facing adhesives and construction chemicals, generated revenue of ₹3,423.57 crore, reflecting a healthy 20.7% growth. This segment is central to the company's retail footprint. Simultaneously, the Business-to-Business (B2B) segment, which caters to industrial clients, grew by 19.87% to reach ₹912.59 crore. The remaining 'others' segment, which includes raw material sales and other operations, outperformed with a 79.5% increase to reach ₹25.37 crore.

Market Reaction and Investor Focus

Investors reacted with caution to the financial results, leading to a 4.13% decline in the share price to ₹1,392 on the BSE. The stock's reaction suggests that the market is focusing on the company's ability to maintain profit margins amid rising input costs. Because Pidilite’s manufacturing process relies on chemicals sensitive to global pricing, raw material inflation is a recurring risk that investors watch closely. Moving into the second half of the fiscal year, the key monitorable will be whether the company can sustain its revenue momentum while balancing pricing strategies to protect its profit margins. Shareholders will likely look for management commentary on how the company plans to navigate these cost pressures in the coming quarters.
