Pidilite Hikes Prices by 4-5% to Offset Raw Material Costs

Pidilite Industries has initiated a 4-5% price hike in October 2026 to counter volatile costs of its key raw material, Vinyl Acetate Monomer. While the company reported a strong 21.7% revenue growth in Q2 FY27, rising input costs compressed margins to 20.4%. Investors may monitor whether this pricing strategy effectively maintains profitability within the company's targeted 20-24% range amidst fluctuating global commodity trends.

Pidilite Industries, the maker of Fevicol, has implemented a 4-5% price increase across its product portfolio effective October 2026. This move is a strategic response to the sharp volatility in the price of Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM), a critical chemical input required for the company's adhesive manufacturing. By adjusting prices, the management aims to protect its profit margins from the impact of rising raw material expenses that have been influenced by ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Financial Performance and Margin Trends

The company's latest financial results for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year show a mix of volume growth and margin pressure. Pidilite reported a standalone revenue of ₹3,982 crore, marking a significant 21.7% year-on-year increase. The business also saw a healthy underlying volume growth of 10.7%, indicating sustained demand for its products. However, the higher cost of raw materials resulted in an EBITDA margin of 20.4% for the quarter, which is a decline compared to the 24.7% margin recorded in the same period last year.

Pricing Strategy and Operational Outlook

Management, led by Managing Director Sudhanshu Vats, has indicated that the company is aiming to maintain EBITDA margins at the higher end of its long-term guidance band of 20-24% for the second half of the fiscal year. The recent price adjustment is part of a proactive strategy to pass on cost increases to the market. The company has a history of adjusting prices dynamically to navigate commodity cycles, and further actions may be taken if economic conditions demand. A key strength for the company remains its robust balance sheet, which is essentially debt-free, providing it with the financial flexibility to manage these cost fluctuations without significant stress.

Risks and Monitoring Points

While the company has demonstrated strong sales growth, investors should track several factors that could influence future performance. The sensitivity of VAM costs to global geopolitical events remains a primary risk, as any sustained surge in prices could continue to challenge margin stability. Additionally, potential moderation in rural demand due to erratic weather patterns could affect the volume growth that the company has enjoyed recently. The effectiveness of the latest price hikes in balancing cost pressures while retaining market share will be a critical monitorable for the coming quarters. Shareholders will likely focus on whether the company can successfully defend its margin targets in H2 FY27 as it navigates the ongoing raw material cost environment.
