PC Jeweller Shares Surge 15% as Debt-Free Goal Nears

PC Jeweller shares rose 15% after the retailer cleared debt obligations with nine of its 14 consortium banks. With 96% of the remaining debt settled and a 90% jump in Q1 FY27 EBITDA, investor confidence has returned. The company also secured shareholder approval to raise ₹1,000 crore via a QIP to fund expansion.

PC Jeweller has made significant progress in its multi-year financial restructuring, bringing the company close to becoming debt-free. In a recent update, the jewellery retailer confirmed it has fully repaid its outstanding dues to nine of its 14 consortium banks. For the remaining five lenders, the company has successfully discharged 96% of its liabilities, aiming to settle the entire debt burden by the end of September 2026. This aggressive approach to clearing debt has been a key trigger for the recent 15% rally in the company’s share price.

The improvement in the company's financial health is also reflected in its recent operational performance. For the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, PC Jeweller reported a consolidated revenue of ₹877 crore, marking a 21% increase compared to the previous year. More importantly, the company’s operating efficiency has improved, with EBITDA surging 90% year-on-year to ₹242 crore. This jump in profitability suggests that the retailer is effectively managing its margins alongside its debt reduction efforts, aided by a recovery in consumer demand and footfall across its retail network.

Strategic Expansion and Capital Raise

With the balance sheet stabilizing, the company is shifting its focus toward growth. Shareholders have approved a plan to raise up to ₹1,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). These funds are earmarked to fuel the company's next phase of expansion. For investors, this marks a transition from a period of crisis management to a strategy focused on scaling operations and reclaiming market share.

While the market has reacted positively to these developments, investors may continue to monitor the sustainability of the recent profit growth. The jewellery retail sector in India remains highly competitive, and the company’s ability to maintain high margins while expanding its retail presence will be a key factor in its long-term performance. Additionally, the execution of the planned expansion using the new funds will be important to track, as it will determine whether the company can translate its leaner balance sheet into consistent revenue growth. The next phase of progress, including the completion of debt payments and the launch of the QIP, will likely remain the primary focus for market participants in the coming weeks.
