PC Jeweller Shares Fall 8% As Profit Booking Continues

PC Jeweller shares dropped 8.5% on Monday, marking an 11% decline over three days as investors locked in profits. The company reported a 58% jump in Q2 profit to Rs 330.66 crore but is now seeing market corrections. Investors are closely watching the execution of its planned 100-store expansion and ongoing debt management strategy amidst high competition in the jewelry retail sector.

PC Jeweller Ltd saw its stock price decline by 8.52% on Monday, settling at Rs 16.53 on the BSE. This drop reflects a trend of profit booking, with the share price falling approximately 11% over the last three trading sessions. The correction follows a period of rapid gains fueled by the company’s recent quarterly earnings report, which initially attracted significant buying interest.

In its financial results for the July-September quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 330.66 crore, a 58% increase compared to Rs 209.54 crore in the same period last year. Higher sales volumes were the primary driver of this profit growth. While these numbers were initially welcomed by the market, some investors are now choosing to exit their positions to lock in gains after the recent rally.

Looking ahead, the company has announced an aggressive growth strategy to expand its physical presence. Management plans to launch up to 100 large-format showrooms over the next 12 to 18 months across Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III cities. To manage the costs associated with such a large project, the company is adopting a hybrid retail model. This approach combines company-owned outlets with a franchise strategy, which is designed to reduce the need for heavy upfront capital spending and help keep debt under control.

Beyond traditional jewelry, the firm is also attempting to capture interest from younger demographics by diversifying its product range. This includes launching a dedicated brand for lightweight and demi-fine pieces, as well as introducing lab-grown diamond jewelry. These initiatives are expected to begin within the current financial year.

The stock had previously seen buying support following a bulk deal involving the chairman of Cupid Ltd, Aditya Kumar Halwasiya, who acquired 5.1 crore shares of PC Jeweller at an average price of Rs 14.43, totaling roughly Rs 73.59 crore. Despite this institutional activity, current market price movements suggest that retail and speculative investors are dominating the trading volume.

For investors, the key monitorables moving forward will be the company’s ability to execute its store expansion plan without adding significant debt pressure. The jewelry retail sector in India is highly competitive, with established players and localized brands vying for market share. Additionally, the company's financial health will depend on how effectively it manages operating costs and navigates gold price volatility. Investors may want to track the actual opening timeline of these new showrooms and whether the new product lines succeed in driving sustainable revenue growth.
