Motilal Oswal Keeps Buy on Tata Consumer, Target Rs 1,500

Motilal Oswal has maintained its 'Buy' rating on Tata Consumer Products with a target price of Rs 1,500. The stock is currently trading near Rs 1,049 amid recent market pressure. The brokerage’s outlook is driven by the company’s strategic transformation into a diversified food and beverage platform. Investors may monitor the execution of this strategy and potential commodity cost volatility.

Motilal Oswal Securities has reiterated its 'Buy' recommendation for Tata Consumer Products, setting a target price of Rs 1,500. This outlook comes at a time when the stock has faced downward pressure, recently trading around the Rs 1,049–1,050 level.

Transition to Diversified F&B

The brokerage's optimistic view is centered on Tata Consumer Products’ ongoing structural transformation. The company is actively moving away from its traditional reliance on tea and salt, evolving instead into a diversified food and beverage (F&B) entity. This shift involves scaling up growth-oriented businesses such as Tata Sampann, Tata Soulfull, Tata MyBistro, Capital Foods, and Organic India.

Management is focusing on innovation to drive this growth. The company reported a sharp increase in new product launches, rising from 41 in FY25 to 80 in FY26. A notable 55% of these new offerings were targeted at the health and wellness segment, which the company views as a key differentiator. The contribution of these innovations to total sales has also improved, rising from 2.7% in FY22 to 4.5% in FY26.

Financial Projections

Motilal Oswal analysts have forecasted strong growth metrics for the company between FY26 and FY28. They expect a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10% in revenue, 16% in EBITDA, and 21% in Profit After Tax (PAT). These estimates assume that the company’s premiumization efforts—shifting toward higher-value products—will continue to gain traction and contribute significantly to overall margins.

Key Risks and Monitorables

While the brokerage remains positive, investors should be aware of several operational and external risks. First, the company’s non-branded businesses remain sensitive to global commodity price fluctuations, particularly in the coffee segment, which can squeeze profit margins if costs rise unexpectedly.

Second, the company is in an active phase of expansion and acquisition. Successful integration of new brands like Capital Foods and Organic India is critical. Any delay or higher-than-expected costs in integrating these entities could impact short-term financial performance.

Finally, the broader FMCG sector is facing competitive pressure and potential slowdowns in discretionary consumer spending. Investors may track how the company balances its aggressive product expansion with these market realities, and whether the planned growth in margins and profitability materializes as forecast in the coming quarters.
