Consumption Peaks on Mother's Day

Mother's Day celebrations translated into a significant spike in consumer spending on food delivery and dining out. Swiggy recorded a 26.24% year-on-year increase in food delivery orders, alongside a marked surge in premium restaurant bookings. This indicates consumers are increasingly treating special occasions as key spending events.

Cake Deliveries Drive Demand

Cake deliveries emerged as a primary driver, with Swiggy dispatching an average of 13,039 cakes every hour nationwide. The demand peaked between 7 pm and 8 pm, with nearly 30,000 orders placed during that single hour. Cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai led, collectively ordering approximately 60,000 cakes. Notably, even tier-2 cities such as Patna and Dehradun showed strong engagement.

Fine Dining Sees Robust Growth

Restaurant reservations via Swiggy Dineout experienced a sharp increase, with fine-dining bookings rising 71.8% from the previous year. Overall Dineout reservations grew by 30.1%. Bengaluru registered the highest number of diners nationally, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. Among emerging markets, Ahmedabad led in diner traffic.

High-Value Transactions Recorded

The strong spending appetite was evident in high-value restaurant bills. The highest single bill recorded on the platform was ₹1.12 lakh by a Bengaluru customer, while another diner in Varanasi spent over ₹1.06 lakh. Despite discretionary spending, customers collectively saved over ₹6.9 crore through Dineout offers, demonstrating the impact of promotions on driving traffic.
