Global Expansion and Drive-Thru Revamp
McDonald's is set to embark on an aggressive global expansion, targeting the opening of over 8,000 new restaurants worldwide by the close of 2026. This initiative forms a crucial part of their ambition to establish a network of 50,000 locations globally by 2027. Simultaneously, the company plans a significant overhaul of its drive-thru operations, with approximately 27,000 locations slated for modernization. Many of these will adopt multi-lane formats designed to shorten customer wait times and improve order throughput.
Pricing and Menu Innovations
Franchisees will face more standardized pricing policies beginning in 2026. While regional variations will persist, operators will have reduced autonomy in setting menu prices. This shift aims for greater consistency, leveraging location data and expert analysis. The company is also exploring new beverage frontiers with its CosMc's concept, slated for testing in over 500 locations, featuring specialty cold brews and flavored drinks. The chicken lineup is also being expanded, alongside an upgraded burger quality through the "Better Burger Initiative," focusing on fresher ingredients and enhanced preparation standards.
Digital Integration and AI Adoption
Payment systems are moving decisively towards card and tap-to-pay, with cash transactions subject to rounding adjustments. McDonald's is enhancing its Rewards program to offer more personalized deals and streamlined mobile ordering. Crucially, artificial intelligence is being integrated across operations to refine drive-thru ordering, minimize errors, and boost overall service speed and accuracy, marking a significant technological leap for the fast-food giant.
