LG Electronics India Q1 Profit Jumps 27%, Stock Hits Record Highs

LG Electronics India reported a 15.5% revenue rise to ₹7,233 crore for Q1FY27, with profit surging 27.2%. Driven by strong demand for premium televisions and appliances, the stock has rallied 12% over the past month. Investors are now balancing these gains against a high valuation of 44-45 times FY28 earnings.

LG Electronics India delivered a robust performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, with revenue climbing 15.5% year-on-year to reach ₹7,233 crore. The company’s bottom line showed even faster growth, with Profit After Tax (PAT) jumping 27.2% to ₹653 crore. Improved operational efficiency, helped by a shift toward higher-value products, pushed the EBITDA margin up by 106 basis points to 12.5%.

Premiumization Strategy Drives Growth

The company’s strategy to focus on premium products has been a key driver of these results. Sales in the home entertainment category, specifically televisions with larger screen sizes, have contributed significantly to the improved margins. Similarly, the home appliances division, including refrigerators and air conditioners, saw steady demand throughout the quarter. By moving toward higher-value items, the company has managed to capture more value per unit sold, which has supported profitability despite broader industry pressures.

Stock Rally and Valuation Considerations

The financial results have fueled investor optimism, resulting in a 12% rally in the stock over the past month, pushing it to record highs. However, this price increase has also drawn attention to the company’s current valuation. The stock is now trading at approximately 44-45 times its projected FY28 earnings. While some analysts maintain a positive outlook on the firm's growth trajectory and its ability to expand its local manufacturing capabilities, others have expressed caution, suggesting that much of the optimism surrounding these earnings may already be reflected in the current share price.

Risks and Operational Factors

While the growth numbers are strong, the company faces several operational and structural risks that investors should monitor. A significant portion of the company's financial structure involves royalty payments to its global parent company, which can attract regulatory scrutiny and impact the cash available for local reinvestment. The company also holds notable contingent liabilities related to tax and excise demands, which represent a potential financial risk depending on the outcome of ongoing legal matters.

Furthermore, the business remains sensitive to input cost volatility and currency fluctuations, which can quickly squeeze margins in the highly competitive consumer electronics sector. The company is also in the process of scaling operations at its Sri City plant, and any delays in executing these expansion plans could hinder its ability to meet future demand or achieve its goal of increasing localization to 65% over the next four years. Moving forward, shareholders will likely track how effectively the company manages these cost and regulatory risks while maintaining its growth in the premium segment.
