Jubilant FoodWorks Shares Rise 6% After Q1 Revenue Jumps 14%

Jubilant FoodWorks shares climbed 6% following Q1 FY27 results, reporting a 14.1% rise in revenue to ₹2,570 crore. While the company added 76 stores, investors are balancing the strong performance of the Popeyes brand against regulatory headwinds and muted sales growth in existing Domino's restaurants.

Jubilant FoodWorks saw its shares rise approximately 6% during Friday's trading session after the company released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company reported a consolidated revenue of ₹2,570 crore, marking a 14.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Net profit also showed growth, rising 6% year-on-year to reach ₹100 crore.

The operational highlights showed continued expansion for the food chain operator. During the quarter, the company added a net of 76 new stores, bringing its total network to 3,712 outlets. This expansion is part of the company's long-term strategy to reach more customers across India. Operating profit, or EBITDA, grew 14.3% to ₹504 crore, with profit margins remaining stable at 19.6% despite broader economic challenges.

Performance across the company's brands showed a split trend. Domino's India, which remains the company's core business, recorded 6.5% order growth and 2.5% like-for-like sales growth. Like-for-like sales measure how much revenue existing restaurants generate compared to the previous year, excluding new store openings. On the other hand, the Popeyes brand continued its rapid growth, recording 97% revenue growth and over 40% like-for-like sales growth for the third quarter in a row. This suggests that while the established pizza business is seeing steady but slower demand, the newer fried chicken brand is gaining significant traction.

Investors are also weighing several risks alongside these growth numbers. The quick service restaurant (QSR) sector is facing intense competition, which puts pressure on pricing and customer retention. Additionally, the company is dealing with input cost inflation, particularly rising commercial LPG prices, which can squeeze profit margins if not managed well.

Regulatory developments are also a monitorable factor. Jubilant FoodWorks has received a GST show-cause notice involving a claim of ₹46.90 crore. Such notices are common in the industry, but they represent a financial and legal uncertainty that shareholders often track for potential impact on cash reserves or future earnings.

Going forward, the key things for investors to watch include whether Domino's can improve its sales growth in existing stores, how effectively the management handles rising operational costs, and any updates regarding the ongoing regulatory matters. The speed at which the company continues to add new stores and the scale-up of the Popeyes brand will also remain important drivers for the business.
