Indigo Paints Target Set At Rs 1,450 By Motilal Oswal After Profit Surge

Motilal Oswal has initiated coverage on Indigo Paints with a target price of Rs 1,450, following a 60% jump in net profit for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company's performance was supported by improved operational efficiency and revenue growth. Investors are now tracking the company's ability to manage raw material price volatility and maintain its current profit margins.

Motilal Oswal has initiated research coverage on Indigo Paints with a 'Buy' rating, setting a target price of Rs 1,450. The brokerage’s outlook follows the company’s recent financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, which highlighted a robust profit growth driven by operational efficiency. Indigo Paints reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 369.7 crore for the quarter, marking a 19.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

The company’s net profit saw a significant rise of 60% year-over-year, reaching Rs 41.7 crore. This increase was largely supported by improved operating leverage, meaning the company managed its costs more effectively as sales grew. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also rose by 40% to Rs 62 crore, indicating wider profit margins for the business during this period.

Operational Strategy and Spending

A key development for the company is its current expansion status. Indigo Paints has completed its Jodhpur plant, and the management has indicated that there are no major requirements for new spending on expansion projects over the next three years. This shift away from heavy capital expenditure could provide the company with more cash flexibility. The company continues to focus on a strategy of premiumization, which involves pushing higher-value products to customers, and it is also continuing to invest in trade and influencer-related spending to maintain its market reach.

Performance Outlook and Potential Risks

While the company has shown positive growth, market observers and investors are monitoring several factors that could influence future performance. One primary focus is the volatility in raw material costs, which can directly affect profit margins if the company is unable to pass on these costs to consumers. Additionally, there is potential for seasonal margin pressure in the second quarter, a common trend in the paint industry.

Another monitorable is the performance of the company's subsidiary, Apple Chemie. While the subsidiary has shown growth, the market is watching for its profit margins to stabilize by the third quarter of fiscal year 2027. Investors will also likely keep a close watch on how the company manages the execution risks associated with its strategy of aggressive spending on trade and influencers. The company's ability to sustain the growth seen in the first quarter will depend on balancing these marketing investments with actual sales demand.
