Hawkins Cookers Q1 Profit Rises 17% as Costs Weigh on Margins

Hawkins Cookers reported a 17.1% jump in net profit to ₹30.38 crore for the June quarter, supported by a 33.1% rise in revenue. Despite higher sales, the company faced margin pressure as rising material and operational expenses grew faster than income. Shares were trading 1.45% lower on the NSE following the results.

Hawkins Cookers Limited, a well-known name in the Indian kitchenware sector, announced its financial results for the first quarter ending June 30, 2026. The company reported a net profit of ₹30.38 crore, marking a 17.1% increase compared to the ₹25.94 crore profit recorded in the same period last year. This growth in the bottom line was driven by a strong performance in total revenue from operations, which surged 33.1% to reach ₹318.13 crore, up from ₹239.08 crore a year ago.

While the increase in sales reflects healthy demand for the company’s products, the financial performance also highlighted a challenging cost environment. The operating margin, which measures how much profit a company makes from its core business operations, slipped to 13.4% from 14.6% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This indicates that while the company successfully sold more products, it had to spend a larger portion of its revenue on inputs and other operational activities.

The primary driver behind this margin pressure was the rising cost of raw materials. The cost of materials consumed increased significantly to ₹153.15 crore, compared to ₹107.38 crore in the same period last year. Additionally, other operational expenses rose to ₹89.64 crore from ₹59.87 crore. This pattern of expenses growing at a faster rate than revenue is a key monitorable for investors, as it limits how much of the sales growth eventually flows into profits.

On the positive side, the company’s earnings per share (EPS) showed improvement, rising to ₹57.45 from ₹49.05 in the year-ago period. Furthermore, the company continued to strengthen its balance sheet, with total reserves increasing to ₹439.96 crore from ₹377.96 crore, showing steady growth in net worth. As of 1:48 PM IST on July 29, 2026, the company's shares were trading at ₹8,638.50 on the National Stock Exchange, reflecting a decline of 1.45% for the day.

In the competitive Indian kitchenware market, companies often face a balancing act between maintaining market share through volume growth and protecting profit margins amid fluctuating commodity costs. Investors will likely look for management commentary in future filings to understand if these higher material costs are expected to persist or if the company plans to adjust product pricing to regain some of its margin cushion. Future updates on material price trends and the company’s ability to manage operational costs will be essential for tracking the sustainability of its profit growth.
